Bug Hunting

Bugs are fascinating things and children can spend ages looking for them and then studying them.  It's a good way to get children outside or even make a walk seem shorter as they look for things along the way.  For a closer view (and to keep those bugs in one place while they're being studied) then a bug viewer is inexpensive useful piece of kit.  There are also more Comprehensive Kits for the really keen bug hunter, which are educational as well as being fun.
