Scavenger Hunts
Children love collecting things when out on a walk. It's a good way of keeping their interest along the way and their mind off whether they should complain about how far they have walked!
For older children give them a list of things to look for before you go out, some of which they could collect and bring home and others to look for but can’t be brought home. The list could include:
- specific items such as leaves, flovers, sheeps wool, feathers, birds, animals etc.
- things to make them think creatively, for example something soft, prickly, smooth, from an animal, that reminds them of themselves.
When you get home children could make a collage using their collection.
For younger children make a bracelet of masking tape or sticky tape (with the sticky side outermost), when you go outside ;pick up colourful leaves, flowers, twigs and any other interesting discoveries and stick them on the bracelet. The bracelet can be snipped off at home and added to their display of pictures and creative work.
