The Insect Conservation Study Centre is a beautiful piece to have in the garden. As well as looking good it will engage children and help them learn about garden insects as well as helping insect conservation (it also doubles as the smartest garden light in the neighbourhood!). There are 5 different and interesting chambers.
Chamber 1: At the top there is the Solar Insect Attic - a solar light illuminates the chamber and attracts insects such as moths, allowing them to be studied at night. The light will automatically turn off at dawn.
Chamber 2:An overwintering chamber which provides insulated nooks and crannies for ladybirds and lacewings (both are voracious eaters of aphids, so the more help they get the better!). It may also be used for solitary bees
Chamber 3: the Big Bug area, this has a giant magnifying glass in the front door to view bugs, there are also clear tubes at the back to study more creepy crawlies
Chamber 4: The lacewing chamber comes filled with straw to overwinter lacewings. Alternatively the chamber can be filled with bark for ladybirds.
Chamber 5: Interactive solitary bee study area, this has removable trays for studying the bees development. Solitary bees are non aggressive and safe for children. These bees are essential pollinators for fruit and vegetables
