see how brainy birds are

A simple experiment to see how brainy our feathered friends really are! Great fun for kids (and adults!).

You will need
Two small clear plastic pots
Bird seed
Stiff paper or card
Sticky tape or masking tape
Small stones
Scissors

What to do

Place an upturned pot on a piece of card and draw round it
Half fill both pots with pebbles
Cut out the card circle, leaving a little tap sticking out, to make a lid
Fasten the card on one pot with a piece of tape so you have a hinged lid
Put some seeds in both pots and close the lid on one
Put both pots outside.
Watch the birds when they arrive – they’ll feed from the open pot to start with, then see if any are clever enough to open the lid of the second pot!
